The state of the Japanese Xbox 360

Sunday, February 12. 2006

Last night I wandered over to my local Walmart to see if the supply of 360's was still dry. A small group of children and adults crowded the display case playing the demo unit. On the other side of the glass no 360's were to be found. Curious about the current state of the 360 overseas, I headed over to Yahoo! Japan’s auction site to do a little research. Here's what I found:

Among the 4 most recent Yahoo! auctions for Xbox 360 units, all 4 were sold for significantly LESS than the retail price.

Farewell Xbox 360 Lounge – we hardly knew ye

Saturday, February 11. 2006

Today (2/12) marks the final day of the Xbox 360 Lounge located in Tokyo. The Lounge opened last November (11/1) and has been open for just over three months. The concept behind the Lounge was to exhibit Microsoft’s next-generation console to the general public. People could drop by, hang out, and play a little 360 to pass the time (and hopefully run out and buy the new hardware).

The Lounge’s final event, which runs from 2/11 through 2/12, is an exhibit for the upcoming title Zoids Infinity EX NEO. Players were able to test run the game via both 360 hardware and arcade machine. Zoids Infinity EX NEO will be released for 360 on 3/30.

In its final days, the Lounge had the following games on display: Ninety-Nine Nights, Kameo: Elements of Power, Zoids Infinity EX Neo, and Rumble Roses XX. Judging from the events calendar, the Xbox 360 Lounge had a slow last two months with only two events scheduled including the final event for Zoids.
