PlayStation 3 - Early November

Tuesday, March 14. 2006

Today at PS Business Breifing 2006 March, Sony has officially announced that the PlayStation 3 will be delayed until the beginning of November 2006. Up until this point, the company had insisted that the PS3 was on track for a Spring launch, however this date has now been pushed back nearly half a year. The delay seems to stem from Sony’s decision to bundle Blu-Ray functionality, although no specific information was given.

Sony predicts that it will produce about 1 million units (initially), and 6 million units by the end of next year. This time around, they promise to get a larger number of units out the door at launch (as compared to the PS2 launch).

Want a DS Lite? Get in line!

Thursday, March 2. 2006

Many major online gaming sites have published their coverage of the DS Lite’s launch and, to no surprise, there are lines to be found everywhere! With an already short supply of Nintendo DS’ in the region, Japanese gamers aren’t taking their chances with waiting for new shipments. Over 600 people lined up at both the Ikebukuro and Yurakucho Bic Camera stores. This seems to be typical of various other locations around the city such as Akihabara and Shinjuku.

Tales of the Tempest delayed

Tuesday, February 28. 2006

Namco’s Nintendo DS title Tales of the Tempest has been delayed from a 4/13 release date to 6/8, nearly two months later. The reason given for the delay is that the staff feels that in order to create a game that the consumers can be completely satisfied by, more improvements in quality are necessary (literally, “quality up”).

Tales of the Tempest will be the first DS title for the Tales of series. The game will retail for 2,040.

DS Lite: No online pre-orders?

Monday, February 27. 2006

It appears that at least one major retailer, Biccamera.com, will not be taking pre-orders for the Nintendo DS Lite which is only days away from launch. The front page of the site lists a notice stating that “Pre-orders will not be taken [for the DS Lite] at BicCamera.com. Sales will begin after launch day.” The notice suggests that perhaps in-store pre-orders will be possible. A quick visit to the Nintendo DS hardware category of the website also produced a blank page – 0 items are currently listed under Nintendo DS hardware. And this isn’t the only store. Apparently Yodobashi Camera’s online store also is not listing any products under the Nintendo DS hardware category.

Surly this must all be related to the shortage of DS’ that has been affecting the region since late last year. With the delay of the blue DS Lites will Nintendo be able to deliver enough DS’ into the hands of eager customers?
