DS Lite blues
Nintendo made an official announcement today stating that the Ice Blue and Enamel Navy versions of the DS Lite will not be released on 3/2 as was previously announced. Instead, only the Crystal White version of the DS Lite will be available on launch day while the two blue versions will be available a little over one week later on 3/11.
The official press release reads, “An unexpected obstacle has arisen in the manufacturing process. The Ice Blue and Enamel Navy versions of the DS Lite are of a satisfactory build, but the assurance of a sufficient quantity [of Ice Blue and Enamel Navy DS Lites] has become difficult. We would therefore like to announce that we will be delaying the release date for these 2 DS versions to 3/11.”
Essentially, their manufacturing problems have lead to a lower yield of acceptable copies of the 2 blue DS Lites, quality-wise. I would assume this to mean that the problem lies only with the outer shell parts, which is the only difference between the blue and white version of the DS Lite.
Nintendo also profusely apologizes (again) for the shortage of DS’ that occurred late last year and assures their customers that they are doing everything possible to get those DS out of the factories and into the hands of customers.
