Dear reader,

As you might have noticed, this blog has been neglected for many months. I originally started this blog as a means to give the non-Japanese speaking world access to what I read and take for granted every day. While I was able to keep up the pace for a short period of time, it soon became clear that I would not be able to maintain this site along with my other obligations.

During its short run, the YamaKiyo Press was featured on many sites and blogs such as Kotaku, GamesIndustry.biz, Major Nelson's blog, Gamasutra, Gamers.com, Joystiq, and others. I am honored to have my humble translations make the front page of some of the most reliable and respected game-related sites around.

Perhaps I will return to the gaming news translation scene one day. But until then I will be here gaming alongside all of you. I enjoyed the short months of translating for everyone and thank you - the reader - for your support.

Regards,
Jon "YamaKiyo" Yamaoka

PlayStation 3 - Early November

Tuesday, March 14. 2006

Today at PS Business Breifing 2006 March, Sony has officially announced that the PlayStation 3 will be delayed until the beginning of November 2006. Up until this point, the company had insisted that the PS3 was on track for a Spring launch, however this date has now been pushed back nearly half a year. The delay seems to stem from Sony’s decision to bundle Blu-Ray functionality, although no specific information was given.

Sony predicts that it will produce about 1 million units (initially), and 6 million units by the end of next year. This time around, they promise to get a larger number of units out the door at launch (as compared to the PS2 launch).

hibernation

Monday, March 13. 2006

The YamaKiyo Press has gone into hibernation due my busy schedule. I may occasionally post during the next two weeks, but it will not be on a daily basis. I am still keeping up with recent import news, so if there's anything major breaking, I'll be sure to make some time to translate it and put it up.

I have also received my copy of the sequel to the popular brain training game, Motto Nou wo Kitaeru Otana no DS Training. I have been training my brain for the past 3 days, slowly unlocking the various training games including the Dr. Mario-like mini game. I plan to write up a review of the game including little mini-reviews for each training game that is included on the cart. Check back later for more.

Want a DS Lite? Get in line!

Thursday, March 2. 2006

Many major online gaming sites have published their coverage of the DS Lite’s launch and, to no surprise, there are lines to be found everywhere! With an already short supply of Nintendo DS’ in the region, Japanese gamers aren’t taking their chances with waiting for new shipments. Over 600 people lined up at both the Ikebukuro and Yurakucho Bic Camera stores. This seems to be typical of various other locations around the city such as Akihabara and Shinjuku.
